It's not bad enough to be diagnosed with breast cancer but then to see yourself for the first time after the mastectomy is painful. Taking a 44 DDD breast off one side down to the chest wall and then having the other one there was very obvious. My first decision after talking to my surgeon was to have both breasts off, but now I am glad I didn't. Your appearance becomes very important. Before I went through the surgery, I had to crack my back every day, and the pain in my neck and shoulders drove me crazy. I had eyelid surgery for many reasons, mainly my vision when I drove my car. When I was passing a car and going to go back into my lane, I would look to see if there was a safe distance in going back into my lane. I sometimes would not see the car I was passing; several times I almost caused an accident, which scared me. Also, when I looked up with my eyes, I would see my eyelids. They were so large. Some of my friends would call me "Old Bag Eyes". They said only teasing, but I was very sensitive to the remark. I would look at myself in the mirror and they were right. I became self-conscious, not wanting my picture taken, and I would think people were looking at my eyes when we were talking. Christmas pictures, several years ago, I saw my side profile of myself. I couldn't believe that my cheeks and chin had drooped so badly. Once again I didn't want any pictures taken of my face. I didn't like the way I looked, I didn't go out much, and I preferred staying at home. I would look at other women my age and they didn't have the cheeks and chin I had.
At work one day I was talking to a lady (my age) and she didn't look her age. I stated that to her and she said she had a facelift and has been happy since she had the surgery. I was referred to Dr. Eckhardt who did my eye, facelift, and brow tuck surgeries. He explained the surgeries in detail. I had the eye surgery first, then the facelift. I have not regretted having the surgery done. I now have pictures taken, feel great about myself, moral lift (I say). For a number of years I was an avid runner, the time spent pounding the pavement was taking a toll on my knees. After the birth of my daughter 7 years ago, my interests in working out had to change due to the stress on my knees. I took up kickboxing, tae kwon do, and weight training. I lost the "baby weight", but I wasn't satisfied with the results in my abdomen. I could feel the muscles, but I wasn't popping through like I had hoped. A layer of fat and stretched skin was preventing that. I had read about liposuction and how that best candidates were those who needed a push over that last hurdle towards their goal. With my diet and exercise regiment, I thought I was the right candidate. Dr. Eckhardt confirmed that. He made sure my expectations were realistic and all my questions had been answered. The procedure and recovery went very well. The most difficult part was having to very gradually ease back into my workout routine. I'm not good at "taking it easy". Breast reduction at 67- ok yes! I attended Dr. Eckhardt's seminar just to see what it was all about and to meet him. I was a 38-40 DDD, love yard work, very active, and if you are this size, you know the bother and discomfort large breasts are. Clothes are a problem and my big problem was backaches. I dreamt of this procedure for a long time, but felt it was an impossible dream. Dr. Aric Eckhardt's presentation was so thorough. He answered all questions. I was impressed with him and made my first appointment with a good list of 25 questions. I need to know all I can about a procedure before I decide. He answered all and more of my questions so graciously and didn't hurry me. I left there on "cloud nine" ready for surgery in the next hour, if possible. To make my final decision, I needed my own personal physicals opinion. He said to go for it and that my back should feel so much better. I setup my appointment with Dr. Eckhardt for surgery and the rest is history. Surgery and recovery were a snap. I still can't believe the little pain I had. I sailed through it. After having a gastric bypass in March of 2000, I had a lot of loose skin from years of being overweight. Being overweight caused my skin to lose its elasticity. The skin hung from my stomach area and I had very saggy breasts. Dr. Eckhardt's name was given to me by a former patient of his. After hearing her experiences with him and seeing her after photos, I was impressed and set up an appointment for me. I was told I had to lose my weight first from the gastric bypass before any reconstruction could be performed.
My first visit was on November 17, 2001. I was interested in a tummy tuck, breast lift, augmentation, and hernia repair. My husband and I watched videos of the procedures and then Dr. Eckhardt explained the procedures to us then worked with my insurance company to see what would be covered. We set a tentative date for December 10. I met with Dr. Eckhardt once more before the procedure to discuss it again and the type and size of implants to be used. I felt very comfortable around Dr. Eckhardt; he was professional, yet showed a very caring side for me. He understood that what I was going through was tough and offered his opinion as to what would work best for my body type. My procedure took place on December 10, 2001. I was apprehensive, yet excited to look like my younger self again. The procedure went as planned, but took a little longer than scheduled. My husband and I discovered that Dr. Eckhardt is a perfectionist. Wow! What a job to have for a perfectionist. I went home the day after the surgery and my recovery, while a little painful, went very well. I was back to getting around well and moving in five days. While the overall look and change can take a few months, the immediate outcome was great and I looked wonderful. By the end of six weeks, I was back to my normal self and everyday life dong routine activities.
Dr. Eckhardt wanted me to wait to start working out so my body could adapt to the change and my incisions could heal. At my six month post-op visit, we decided to have some final touch up work done on the breasts. This was done in the office and took very little time. It was done with locals and a sedative. This procedure went very well and I was ready to go that day. This was the final procedure done and I had the look I was wanting. Not only would I use Dr. Eckhardt for further plastic surgery, but also I would and have recommended him to many others. I know Dr. Eckhardt showed my family and I how great of a person he is when on June 29, 2003, my son got bit on the face by a neighbor's dog. He was bitten very close to one of his eyes and needed plastic surgery. We took my son to a hospital that Dr. Eckhardt does not normally go to. We were very firm on having Dr. Eckhardt do the procedure on our son. The hospital stated they did not think he would come there, but he did. His page was answered and showed up as soon as he could. Dr. Eckhardt really made our son feel at ease and worked very quickly. While our son has a scar and nothing will take that away, we are more than satisfied of the outcome. Even the ER nurse commented on the work and how impressed she was. Dr. Eckhardt stands by his work and has shown my family and me how dedicated and trustworthy a surgeon should be.

I am a hospital health care worker and I feel Dr. Eckhardt did an absolutely amazing job. Time was taken to answer any questions/concerns I had during the pre-op visit, recovery, and post-op checkups. I was a person instead of a "procedure". I went into Dr. Eckhardt's office to find out about the "Blue Peel" and "BOTOX® Cosmetic" treatment. Dr. Eckhardt recommended that I initially start on the Obagi® line of skin care products. That was one and a half years ago. I have been faithful doing the morning treatment each day and a little less faithfully with the evening treatment. The first 6-12 weeks were somewhat difficult, but I managed to continue my normal day-to-day routines without more than an additional couple of minutes each day. I believe the redness and flaking skin were probably more noticeable to me than to anyone else, and it passed quickly. I am very happy with my skin now. In August I will turn 46 and my age spots are gone, my skin feels so soft, it sometimes surprises me still when I touch it. Thinking back, I do not have a lot of problems with acne, I did get quite a few blackheads in oily areas on my face. I believe that my pores are much smaller and my over all appearance is more youthful and glowing. I have quit wearing foundation all together; I just touch up a few dark areas with cover stick.
I am complimented on my skin frequently now by my friends and family that knew what I was doing. They believe also that there is a noticeable difference. However, it has not been such a drastic change that my work associates have noticed. It has been a gradual discrete change, which I have enjoyed without being a spectacle. The expense of the products seemed like a lot, but it all lasts so long, and you run out of different things at different times, making the cost much easier to take on. I have only gone through approximately 2 of each product per year. Dr. Eckhardt and all of his staff have been so pleasant and helpful. I can call anytime and talk to someone with questions. I think it's great that when you stop in you can see the nurses and receptionist, which some are also using the product. You get to see first hand what results you can expect and you have someone who understands your questions and what you are going through, during the initial phase of this treatment. I can't say that I don't still sometimes think about the blue peel... but I am completely happy with the results of the Obagi® Skin products. I will say that it has definitely delayed my desire to do anything more invasive for the time being. I tell everyone, "I'm reversing the aging process!" And I believe it.

I had been large breasted since my high school days and I hated it. I was very active in sports (and still am) and they caused back and shoulder pain. I had thought about having a breast reduction done, but never knew anyone who had gone through the procedure, so I lived with my situation. Finally, a friend of mine went to see Dr. Eckhardt, and shortly thereafter I had a breast reduction. After talking with her about the process and how she felt after, I decided it was definitely something I wanted done. So, I called and made an appointment.
